EASE Lectures and Activities: Decriptions

Cancer Risk Reduction: Learn evidence-based recommendations for cancer prevention utilizing lifestyle modifications, which may also reduce the risk of recurrence. Environmental factors will also be discussed
and vitamin D.

The Healing Power of Art and Laughter: This session is about art as a powerful medium for self-expression, healthy reflection and enjoyment. Art and laughter boosts our energy and appreciation of life.

Implementing an exercise prescription: This session helps participants develop an exercise prescription and provides them an opportunity to participate in an exercise program. Specifics for exercise prescriptions (mode, intensity, frequency, duration) will be discussed along with target heart rate calculations and practice.

Kripalu Dance Kinetics: Experience the power of dance to shake loose inhibitions and to replace them with the enjoyment that only expressive and free movement can bring. "When you move freely and accept your body, mind and spirit with love, you can contact and release the motivating power within. Life becomes exhilarating again, you begin to live with greater self-regard and resiliency. You're happier!"

Love, Laughter and Life after Cancer: This breakout session is about ways to win back your regular life after having had cancer. We will discuss common symptoms experienced and medication and non-medication treatments.

Lymphedema: Risk Reduction and Massage Techniques: Individuals will learn lymphedema risk reduction practices, which includes exercises to stimulate lymph function and lymphedema management.

Movement for Lymphatic Support: Stretching exercises to stimulate health and reduce the risk for developing lymphedema.

Nutrition For Healthy Living & Weight Management: Learn about eating a predominantly plant based diet based on The American Institute for Cancer Research: The New American Plate to help prevent weight gain and protect against those cancers whose risk is convincingly increased by higher body fat (i.e. cancers of the colon, esophagus, endometrium, pancreas, kidney, and breast).

Restorative Yoga: Reduce the physical effects of stress on the body. By encouraging relaxation, yoga helps to lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Benefits include lowering blood pressure, heart rate, improving digestion, boosting immune system, reducing anxiety, depression, fatigue, asthma, and insomnia. Restorative yoga can aid weight control by reducing cortisol levels and aid burning excess calories.

Sea-kayaking: This section will provide an opportunity to kayak as a group. Basic kayak instructions and safety will be discussed. All equipment will be provided (boats, paddles, life vests), and any level from beginner to expert can attend. Dress appropriately as you may get a bit wet.

Shake Your Soul: Finding joy - along with freedom, passion, power and grace - is at the core of the Shake Your Soul®: YogaDance experience. Our inner dancer is called forth and we discover the aliveness of our spirit through dance and movement.

Survivorship: Long-term Issues: Learn more about possible late effects of cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery) and possible long-term complications of being a cancer survivor. This session also includes an "ask the expert" opportunity.

Symptom management: Learn ways to reduce fatigue, depression, and anxiety through lifestyle modifications with diet and exercise. We'll also be discussing techniques to aid with hormonal disturbances including hot flashes and sleep disturbances, osteoporosis, and cognitive dysfunction.

Therapeutic Yoga: This form of yoga targets joints and glands. It is a series of gentle yoga body movements that exercise different joints and stimulate the gland. The movements relieve stiffness in joints and promote well-being and relaxation.

Yoga Nidra: Also known as yogic sleep. It is a form of guided relaxation, which takes you through different visualizations. It gives you the benefits of deep sleep without the dullness of being unconscious.

Whole Food Cooking Classes: Utilize anti-inflammatory nutrition strategies to optimize energy, digestion, and immune function. Foods that are as close to their whole form as possible are higher in nutrient values, giving your body better building blocks for healing and repair. All tasty recipes will be dairy-free, wheat-free, and sugar-free, so also beneficial for those with allergies, other medical conditions, and desiring to manage a healthy weight.
