Our goal at the EASE Cancer Foundation is to assist in educating cancer survivors about the
relationship between diet and increased cancer risk, energy and fatigue, diet and healthy body weight management. Understanding optimal food choices is the key to a healthy diet.
Poor diet is a major cause of certain types of cancer and other diseases in the United States, and there are two main reasons for this. One is that a when a person eats a poor diet, the body does not get supplied with important nutrients that are necessary to maintain healthy cells and tissues. This sometimes means that the body’s immune system is less able to protect against the onset of cancer. In addition, cancer treatments can destroy healthy tissue and these tissues need the
appropriate nutrients to repair themselves.
Poor dietary habits may also promote obesity (extreme overweight). Obesity has been shown to be a strong contributor to the development of chronic disease and cancer. “Women who are obese after menopause have a 50 percent higher relative risk of breast cancer. Obese men have a 40 percent higher relative risk of colon cancer”.1 Also, death rates for obese cancer patients are 52% higher for men and 62% higher for women than cancer patients of normal; weight
(NEJM 348:1625-1638, 2003).
Our nutrition courses empower those living with and surviving cancer to understand how to make a beneficial eating plan, which may reduce the risk of cancer reoccurrence.
Our sincere hope is that you- or someone you care about- will be able to benefit from this
information. If interested in workshops, see our Events page, or Contact Us.
